Exhibition runs: August 1 - September 1, 2009
Exhibition hours: By appointment through Civilian
Opening: Saturday, August 1, 12-4pm at 87 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC

As part of the "First on 1st Neighborhood Art + Music Walk" sponsored by the Pink Line Project and North Capitol Main Street, CIVILIAN ART PROJECTS has cooked up a summer show for 87FLORIDA.

At a time where everyone is considering the importance of one form of currency or another, Civilian asked artists to create new or existing work that shared a common spirit of abundance. In new and imaginative ways, these artists interpret art and ideas as resources with a currency unlimited by monetary definition.

Artists in the exhibition include: Seth Adelsberger / Nicholas Carr / Anthony Dihle / Carole Wagner Greenwood / Ryan Hill / Erick Jackson / Amanda Kleinman / Kate MacDonnell / Cara Ober / Trevor Young

This national exhibition has been organized in conjunction with the New York City based School of Visual Arts MFA 2009 class who instigated a series of exhibitions and projects across the country called "A New Currency" under the direction of curator/professor Dan Cameron. More information can be found on the SVA's "A New Currency" project here: http://anewcurrency.blogspot.com/

“A New Currency: Shared Resources” is a partnership exhibition with Civilian Art Projects and 87FLORIDA, an alternative art space in a dynamic neighborhood of northwest Washington founded by artist Ceci Cole McInturff. A working studio as well as exhibit and performance space, since 2005 87FLORIDA has hosted several exhibitions and music performances, including the DC Jazz Festival. Describing itself as and “urban art space with a mission,” 87FLORIDA is also home to activities of several arts philanthropies providing arts exposure to at-risk communities." www.87florida.com
